Smart sensors in Egypt: choosing the right sensor
Motion, door-contact, water-leak and gas sensors serve different purposes. Choose the event you want to monitor, then check the protocol, alert method and installation requirements.
Start with the detection task
Decide whether you need motion detection, an opening alert, water detection or detection of a particular gas. Check the model’s intended use and sensing method. Two devices that send notifications are not necessarily interchangeable.
Alerts and power
Check whether the sensor provides app notifications only or a local audible alert, and whether it uses batteries or external power. Test notifications after setup as described in the manual, and check battery condition regularly where applicable.
Placement and connectivity
Mounting position, protection rating and suitable surroundings depend on sensor type. Confirm the compatible hub for Zigbee and network requirements for WiFi. Real-world range depends on placement, walls and interference.
Automation with other devices
To trigger a light or control a valve, verify compatibility between the exact models and the required scene. Smart sensors do not replace required safety equipment or maintenance, and app notifications alone should not be relied on in dangerous situations.
Common questions
Can a sensor control a valve or switch?
That depends on the exact devices, app or hub and supported automation. Ask about both model numbers.
Are all smart sensors battery-powered?
No. Power requirements vary by sensor type and model; check the specification before ordering.
